Sheeba founded Alaap People’s Forestry to explore how forest restoration could bring jobs to rural mountain communities — particularly women and youth.

After serving as executive director at Aarohi, she wondered if reforestation might be a basis for creating economic engines in the Himalayan foothills? Could the Miyawaki method (high-density planting of native species) restore biodiversity in heavily degraded community forests? The work led to some strong results that inspired us to explore a way to scale forestry work across India.
