A habitat restoration project in Mumbai
We recently launched a project, funded by Amazon’s Right Now Climate Fund, to restore the habitat of Thane Creek in Mumbai, India. The habitat is famous for the yearly visit of more than 100,000 flamingos that stop over to feed on their yearly migration. To deliver the project, we’ve partnered with 3 amazing organizations: Srusthi Conservation Group to study this under-researched habit and engage government in policy decisions, Plastic Fischer to remove plastic and other waste from one of the creek’s tributaries, and SAVE to plant mangroves at another of the flamingo’s stopover points in Gujarat. The project will create jobs, recommend policy, better understand this unique urban habitat, and plant 175,000 mangroves further up the coastline. In subsequent phases, we hope to expand our activities and create self-sustaining enterprises that scale our impact.
